Alice can DRIVE!

I drove to the post office.

Yesterday, we took a walk to throw rocks into the river and on our way back we passed the post office. Just as we were passing, the mail was delivered. We had a lot of big boxes and had to run back for the truck to get them home. Some of the boxes were delivered right to our door so while Joe got them inside I loaded the kids in the truck... and hopped in the driver's seat. It was just a joke because the kids think it's hilarious when I pretend to drive... they know I just don't do it.

But then it felt so easy. Why couldn't I just start the truck and drive off? It wasn't like the post office was very far away. There most likely wouldn't be any oncoming traffic (there is only one other working truck in our village and a few four wheelers). The village was quite. No children running around playing. I could drive if I wanted to.

Joe got in and handed me the keys as if nothing unusual was happening and I started the truck. It's hard to tell whether the kids were hitting their heads against the windows because of my constant breaking or the crappy gravel road. Joe thought it was my driving abilities, but he drove on the way back and there was no less bumping or head hitting. Either way the kids thought it was hilarious!

Joe made it feel like I was starting all over again with my Mother sitting next to me instead of my husband ha!

I felt so normal, I was just really rusty. I haven't felt 'normal' or 'ok' in a vehicle for FOUR YEARS. I haven't driven a car for any distance since the day after Father's Day 2008! I backed the SUV down the driveway twice in those 4 years but that is as close as it came to driving.

Now, don't go expecting me to be driving all over town. There is just no reason for that. Maybe I'll just attempt it again in another four years.
